Description
Chapelton is a group of farm buildings constructed around 1866. The buildings feature rubble walling with sandstone quoins and dressings. To the west, there is a symmetrical single-storey cattle byre that includes a central pend and a gabled attic above, which is dated 1866 on a panel. There is also a further single-storey wing at right angles, which has a modern steel-frame cattle court added to it.
To the east, there is a large U-plan steading that includes a two-storey western range that was formerly used for domestic purposes, a barn to the north, and a large three-storey grain barn to the east. The complex was originally built as a commercial grain storage depot, and all the buildings are topped with piended slate roofs.
