Description

Greenhead Cottage, located on Greenhead Brae in New Galloway, has its origins in the late 18th century but was rebuilt in the early 19th century. Originally a single-storey cottage, it was raised to a two-storey and attic house, with single-storey and attic wings, one of which is now known as Greenhead Cottage.

The main house features harled walls over rough-rubble construction, with raised margins and quoins. It has single-light sash and case windows that display a 12-pane glazing pattern. The central entrance consists of a double-leaf door topped by a narrow fanlight.

The cottage includes timber gabled dormers, which likely date from the later 19th century. It has a steeply pitched slate roof with coped end stacks. The wings are two bays, with the left wing being taller and featuring dormers that break through the eaves. There are also 20th-century brick additions to both wings at the rear.
