Description

St Mungo School in Kettleholm is a cruciform-plan parish church built in 1842 that was converted into a school around 1877 with minimal changes to the exterior. Around 1900, a three-bay wing was added, connected by a narrow link to the long west wall, along with low shelters to the west. The building is harled, featuring ashlar dressings and round-arched windows with intersecting tracery and shaped skews. The east jamb has an apex birdcage belfry, although the bell has been removed, and there are modern symmetrical lean-tos. There is a single end stack over the wing, and apex roof ventilators, also from around 1900, reflect the Arts and Crafts tradition. The roofs are covered with graded slates.
