37 Main Street, Kirkinner

This is an early 19th century cottage located at 37 Main Street, Kirkinner. It is a single storey building with a later attic and originally had three bays. The front elevation is built of rubble, rendered and lined, with contrasting red sandstone quoins, margins, and a base course. A central door is flanked by windows. The sides and rear of the cottage are painted. Dormer windows with gables, slate coverings, and finials are positioned above the outer bays. There’s a window in the gable facing the road junction, featuring plate glass. The rear elevation mirrors the front with a central door flanked by windows. The windows are sash and case, with a 12-pane glazing pattern to the principal windows and dormers. The cottage has end stacks with ashlar coping, each containing three cans, and is roofed with grey graded slates along with a rooflight. A panelled door, featuring a letterbox fanlight and approached by steps, leads into the building. It has cast-iron rainwater goods.
