Description
Valenciennes is an early 19th century picturesque single-storey house arranged in a U-plan, originally built as cottages with outbuildings in wings. The exterior is whitewashed rubble with painted ashlar margins, featuring unusual rubble blocking to the openings, which are mostly square-headed and set within round-headed margins. Some minor alterations have been made.
The long west-facing elevation has three wide bays, with oculi in the wall-head pediments above the openings. The central bay features a door flanked by windows, and the outer bays have bipartites. Each west-facing gable has an oculus, and there is an off-centre, west-facing door set within depressed-arched margins with a bracketed modern hood. A lean-to is situated in the north re-entrant angle. Corniced axial stacks rise from the roof and the roof itself is slate covered, with red ridging tiles.
