Description

35 Bank Street in Dumfries is a classical three-storey tenement building dating from around 1840. It is stepped to follow the slope of the street and features shops on the ground floor. The facade has eight bays arranged in a 2-2-4 pattern, with the two westernmost bays (numbers 33 and 37) set forward and featuring a curved angle. The building is constructed of polished red ashlar with decorative architraves. The shops are located beneath a fascia and cornice. The second floor has cill bands, and numbers 39 and 41 also have cill bands on the first floor. The main cornice is prominent, and the sash windows at numbers 33 and 37 retain their original 12-pane glazing pattern, while the rest of the building has modern glazing. The building has end stacks and slate roofs.
