Description
The Bank of Scotland, located at 73 High Street in Annan, is a classical bank building from the earlier to mid-19th century, with alterations made by the architects Peddie and Kinnear in 1865. It features three storeys above a basement and has a symmetrical five-bay elevation facing High Street, arranged in a 2-1-2 grouping. The central porch is pedimented and supported by paired columns, with a shop to the left that includes a central door. Steps and platts provide access to the basement area. The building is constructed of red ashlar and includes band-courses between the floors, sash windows with small panes above ground level, an eaves course, a cornice, and corniced stacks. The roof is both piended and platformed, finished with lead and slate. The west flank facing Bank Street has three bays, with one ground floor opening blocked, and there is a single-storey, two-bay flat-roofed addition. The basement area is enclosed with iron railings.
