Description
Ellenbank is a detached, two-storey house built in the earlier to mid-19th century. It is arranged in an L-shape; the main three-bay elevation faces west, with a two-bay wing extending to the east, creating the L-plan. The main entrance is located on the southeast side of the house.
The house is constructed of rubble stone with polished cream sandstone window and corner details. The west elevation has three bays, featuring paired, projecting, canted windows on the ground floor, each topped with a pierced ashlar parapet. Three single-light windows are grouped centrally on the first floor, all with sash and case windows and 12-pane glazing. Round-arched niches are incorporated into the flanks of the west elevation at first-floor level. The southeast elevation, with two bays, has a consoled pedimented doorpiece on the left, sheltering double-leaf panelled doors and a fanlight above. This elevation also has single-light windows with matching glazing.
A string course runs above the ground floor, and there is a corniced eaves cornice. The end stacks have cornices, and the roof is covered with slate.
