Description
Mayfield House is a circa 1800 house, though it may incorporate earlier fabric. It is a two-storey, three-bay building. The house is generally rubble-built with mostly stugged dressings, although some droved dressings are visible at the lower southeast angle. The south front is harled and has enlarged first-floor windows with slab margins. The entire building is whitewashed with contrasting painted margins.
The south elevation features a gabled central porch that is not original, and a slightly wider left bay containing a cellar opening. It has sash windows with a 12-pane glazing pattern. An eaves course runs along the top of the building, with straight skews and end stacks. The roof is covered with graded slates. A rear lean-to extends from the rear. The main roof slopes over a long, single-storey range of outbuildings to the west, which include a coach house, stable, and a three-bay cottage with a centre-doored front.
Mayfield House and its outbuildings were reclassified from Category B to Category C(S) on 4 October 1988.
