Description

Vendaceburn is a picturesque cottage dating from around 1840. It is a single-story building with three bays, featuring a piend roof (a roof with two slopes meeting at a ridge). A rear wing extends from the main body of the cottage and incorporates an attic space. The cottage is constructed of rubble stone with contrasting red ashlar dressings and margins - meaning that the decorative details are made from precisely cut red stone.

The east-facing elevation has a central panelled door topped with a fanlight (a semi-circular window above the door). The main roof extends over the central door as a canopy, supported by two large stone brackets. The outer bays feature corniced bipartites (windows divided into two vertical sections) with a thin roll moulding, and sash windows with lying-panes (small horizontal panes of glass). The roof also sweeps over the bays on either side, with a canted window on the south side. One dormer (a window projecting from the roof) is located on the north side of the cottage and is small and piended; a more modern dormer is on the south side. Two axial stacks (chimney stacks positioned along the axis of the building) are present, each with three corniced square flues. The roof is covered in slate.
