Description

Clock Mill, located at 52 Upper Mill Street in Tillicoultry, is an early 19th century textile mill. It is a three-storey and loft structure with nine bays, featuring a three-bay south gable. Attached to the north gable is a narrower, two-storey, two-bay house. The building is set on a slope and constructed from rubble with ashlar margins.

The mill has a main door, which has an altered west jamb, centrally located on the south gable, topped with a ball finial at the apex. Above the door is a clock and a single loft window. There is also a door at the north end of the east wall and small windows, mostly with twelve panes. A modern fire escape and a brick-covered lade are present on the west wall, and the water wheel has been removed. The mill features a single off-centre, gabled and slate-hung loft opening over either wallhead, straight skews, skylights, and a north apex stack.

The attached house has blocked basement openings and painted margins. Its north wall is built of squared whin rubble and includes a modern porch and two wallhead stacks, one of which is original while the other is made of brick. All roofs are slated.
