Dean And Co, 47-49 Queen Charlotte Street, Edinburgh

Dean and Co is a two-storey and basement town house located at 47-49 Queen Charlotte Street in Edinburgh, built around 1825. The building features classical details and has a pend on the outer right. It is constructed from grey sandstone with a stugged ashlar front and polished dressings, while the rear is made of coursed and squared rubble. There is a band course above the basement, and the windows are architraved, with cornicing at the ground floor. The eaves cornice is dentilled and includes a blocking course.

The south elevation has a central doorway that is architraved, consoled, and corniced, accessed by steps that oversail the basement. This doorway features a panelled door and a rectangular plate glass fanlight. Above, there are single windows on the first floor. The bays flanking the centre also have single windows, and there is a secondary doorway, likely a later addition, in the outer left bay, which also has steps, a panelled door, and a rectangular plate glass fanlight. A single window is located above this doorway. At the basement level, there is a low cobbled pend to the outer right bays, and two modern rectangular dormers are present.

The north elevation features irregular windows, with a relieving arch at the ground floor leading to paired windows over the pend. The gable is a nepus style with slate-hung sides, a single window, and an apex stack.

The building has 12-pane timber sash and case windows and a slate roof with corniced mutual stacks and an apex stack.

The interior was not seen in 1993. There is a low boundary wall at the front with flat coping and railings leading to the steps.
