Description
11-13 North Bank Street is an L-plan tenement building constructed between 1723 and 1727, with later alterations and additions. It features eight storeys and an attic facing North Bank Street, five storeys, an attic, and a basement towards James Court, and six storeys with a basement in the southeast wing. There is an engaged octagonal stair tower on the south side, which has swept, bracketed eaves. The building is made of random rubble with relieving arches and ashlar dressings, while the gable head of the main block, the attic storey, and the stair tower of the southeast wing are rendered. Long and short quoins are present.
On the north elevation facing North Bank Street, there are four regularly spaced bays to the left and three narrow bays to the right. The left side features a later shop with a timber panelled door and a continuous fascia at ground level, while the right side has a timber panelled door to the flats set in a pedimented surround. The attic has four timber gabled dormers.
The rear elevation has a single bay facing south towards James Court, with a narrow canted bay in the re-entrant angle. The west elevation of the southeast wing has three bays and two small windows in the attic. The engaged octagonal stair tower has a timber boarded door and small windows on its west elevation, which jetties to the south and features narrow windows. There are spear-headed cast-iron railings enclosing the basement area.
The windows are timber sash and case with 12-pane glazing. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are corniced rendered end and ridge stacks with circular cans.
