Description
The Jewish Burial Ground at Sciennes House Place in Edinburgh was established in 1820 and covers one twenty-fourth of an acre. It is enclosed by sandstone rubble walls of varying ages, primarily from the 18th century, on the south, east, and west sides. The lower wall on the north side is a later 19th-century construction made of squared and snecked sandstone, topped with saddleback ashlar coping. It features wrought-iron railings and a two-leaf gate.
Within the burial ground, there are 29 graves that include a variety of gravestones and wall monuments, dating from 1820 to 1867, with inscriptions in Hebrew characters. Notably, there is a tripartite Greek wall monument located on the east wall.
