Description
The boundary walls of the Exeter Jewish cemetery were originally built in 1757 and later extended in 1807, 1827, and 1851. They were restored in 2019.
These walls are constructed from red sandstone, red brick, and buff sandstone, and they enclose the burial ground on four sides. Access is provided from Magdalen Street through an arch in the northern wall. This arch features sandstone imposts and a keystone, and it is equipped with metal gates that lead directly into the ohel, which is not of special interest. Along the northern wall, red sandstone blocks form a plinth, which may indicate the original boundary wall from 1757, and this section has a flat coping. The eastern boundary wall includes brick pilasters, while a section to the south has been replaced with modern fencing.
