6, 8 Shandwick Place

6 and 8 Shandwick Place is a four-storey, four-bay classical Renaissance tenement and shop built in 1880 by Robert Paterson, with a later top-floor studio arcade added by John McLaren in 1896. The building features sandstone ashlar and channelled ashlar at the first floor. The shop front is pilastered and made of timber, with a round-arched fanlight and doorway to the left, topped by a corniced fascia.

At the first floor, there is a canted four-light wide bay, alongside a narrow window to the left with a fielded panel above. The second floor showcases wide Doric fielded pilasters, and the original consoled and corniced eaves course is topped by an arcaded third floor, which includes pilasters and keystones. The building is finished with a corniced parapet, and the end dies are adorned with urn finials.

The shop front has extensive plate glass glazing, while the first and second floors feature plate glass in timber sash and case windows. The third floor has round-headed transomed windows with 18-pane glazing and hoppers.
