North Gray's Close, 125 High Street, Edinburgh

North Gray's Close at 125 High Street in Edinburgh is a collection of late 16th century buildings with later additions and alterations. The long row of buildings is in a ruinous state and steps down a steep slope. The structures have a rectangular plan and are roofless, with their height reduced. They are constructed of random rubble with ashlar margins and feature a roll-moulded blocked double doorway dated 1581, along with late 17th or early 18th century openings that also have ashlar margins and stone lintels.

The elevation facing North Gray's Close is asymmetrical. It includes a two-storey, two-bay section with roll-moulded doorways and a stepped string course above. There is also a single-storey, three-bay section featuring two ashlar-margined open doorways with relieving arches, and a small blocked window to the left. The northmost section is a two-storey, five-bay area with two blocked arched doorways, a small low open window, a rubble-blocked doorway, and four blocked windows above.

Inside, there is evidence of room divisions, hearths, and doorways, along with some remaining timber beams and lintels. Additionally, remnants of a turnpike stair can be found at the southern end.
