Description

William and Lewis A Wallace, 1819-23. 3-storey and basement, 3-bay tenement in terraced site. Polished sandstone ashlar; polished V-jointed rustication at principal floor; broached ashlar at basement. (Former) cill course at 1st floor, windows extended down; cill course at 2nd floor; band course to principal and 1st floors; cornice and blocking course to 2nd floor. Ashlar steps and entrance platts oversailing basement.

E (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: round-arched doorpiece in bay to left at principal floor; recessed flush-panelled door with radial fanlight. Windows in centre and right bays; regular fenestration to floors above; blind window centred at 2nd floor. Cast-iron window guards in bays at 1st floor. Flagged basement area, with coped rubble retaining walls.

12-pane timber sash and case windows; cills lowered at 1st floor. Grey slate M-roof. Cast-iron rainwater goods. Rubble and harled gablehead stack; coped with circular cans. Coped skew.

INTERIOR: not seen, 1997.

RAILINGS AND LAMP: ashlar copes surmounted by cast-iron railings with fleur-de-lis balusters and quasi-Maltese cross finials. Cast-iron railing-mounted lamp with glass globe.
