Description

12-14 Glengyle Terrace in Edinburgh is a four-storey and basement block of tenement flats designed by David McGibbon between 1867 and 1870. The building features a six-bay façade constructed of polished ashlar, with band courses at the height of the doors and window sills, an eaves cornice, and a carved rosette motif beneath the eaves. The windows have bracketed moulded surrounds and are slightly battered on the third floor, with stone mullions on the bipartite windows and decorative chip carving. The ground floor has alternating doors and windows, with stone steps and platforms leading to the basement areas. The doors are timber panelled with plate glass fanlights in moulded surrounds. The outer bays contain bipartite windows, while the four inner bays have single windows.

The property is complemented by spear-headed cast-iron railings on a low stone-coped wall surrounding the basement area and steps. The windows predominantly feature plate glass in timber sash and case style. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are rendered stacks at the wallhead and ridge.
