Description
9-11 Glengyle Terrace is a tenement block built between 1867 and 1870 by David McGibbon. The building is slightly advanced and consists of four storeys and a basement, featuring six bays with five-storey canted outer bays. It is constructed from polished ashlar and includes band courses at the height of the doors and at the cill levels of the first and third floors, as well as a mutuled eaves cornice. The three upper stories have channelled quoins. The windows are bracketed and set in moulded surrounds, with cornicing at the first floor and a slight batter at the third floor, decorated with chip carving.
At the ground floor, doors and windows alternate, with stone steps and platts leading to the basement areas. The doors are timber panelled with plate glass fanlights, all set in moulded surrounds with consoled cornices. The first floor windows have panelled aprons, while the four inner bays feature single windows.
The property also has spear-headed cast-iron railings on a low stone coped wall surrounding the basement area and steps. The windows predominantly feature plate glass in timber sash and case frames, and the roof is covered with grey slates. Rendered stacks are present at the wallhead, which are splayed, and at the ridge.
