Description
3-5 Glengyle Terrace is a tenement block designed by David McGibbon between 1867 and 1870. This four-storey building with a basement features a six-bay facade constructed of polished ashlar. It has decorative band courses at the height of the doors and window sills, an eaves cornice, and a carved rosette motif beneath the eaves. The windows are bracketed and set within moulded surrounds, with a slight batter on the third floor. The bipartite windows have stone mullions and are adorned with chip carving decoration. The ground floor showcases alternating doors and windows, with stone steps leading to the basement areas, which are covered by timber panelled doors featuring plate glass fanlights in moulded surrounds. The outer bays contain bipartite windows, while the four inner bays have single windows.
The property is complemented by spear-headed cast-iron railings atop a low stone wall that copes the basement area and steps. The windows predominantly consist of plate glass within timber sash and case frames. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are rendered stacks at the wallhead and ridge that are splayed.
