Description

The Community Centre at 117 Nicolson Street in Edinburgh was originally designed by James Gillespie Graham in 1820 and features a Perpendicular Gothic style. The building was formerly the Nicolson Street Church, with later rebuilding carried out by JR MacKay in 1932 after a fire.

The elevation facing Nicolson Street has a Tudor Gothic design with five bays, highlighted by pinnacled buttresses and a crenellated parapet. There is a low wall made of ashlar coping along the street, which is complemented by later metal railings. Stone steps lead up to a two-leaf timber-panelled door, which is set within a hoodmoulded Tudor-arched surround that features mask label stops. The building also includes lancet windows adorned with Perpendicular tracery, and the exterior is constructed from coursed ashlar.
