Description

1, 2 St Patrick Street in Edinburgh is a corner tenement building designed by William Archibald around 1780. It is four storeys tall with an attic and features a four-by-five bay layout, including a three-bay nepus gable on the north elevation facing West Crosscauseway. The ground floor has a 20th-century shop front. The building is constructed from coursed Hailes sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. It has regular window arrangements with projecting sills and raised tabbed margins, and rusticated long and short quoins. The tenement door on the north elevation is a replacement set within a roll-moulded, corniced architrave. The attic includes a pair of piended dormers. The windows are timber sash and case with 12-pane glazing. The gablehead and ridge stacks are made of coped ashlar and feature clay cans, and the roof is covered with grey slate.
