Description
The statue of the 5th Duke of Buccleuch and 7th Duke of Queensberry, created by Sir Joseph Boehm between 1887 and 1888, is an exceptional bronze sculpture located in West Parliament Square, Edinburgh. It stands on a richly ornamented two-stage hexagonal plinth made of ashlar, designed by Sir Robert Rowand Anderson. Each face of the plinth features bronze panels adorned with intricate cresting, showcasing allegorical figures and scenes from the Duke's life, crafted by artists including Clark Stanton, Birnie Rhind, Stuart Burnett, and D W and W G Stevenson. Additionally, there are bronze shields depicting deer at the buttressed corner angles of the plinth.
