18 Colinton Road, Edinburgh

This building, located at 18 Colinton Road in Edinburgh, dates from around 1865 and is a single-storey T-plan lodge. It features an elaborate timber porch and has large modern single-storey additions. The exterior is made of cream sandstone with stugged ashlar and polished dressings, and it has chamfered reveals.

On the front elevation, there is a one-bay gabled main block topped with a finial. This block contains a transomed tripartite window, which is adorned with a stepped hoodmould above a blank tablet, and a blind arrowslit in the gablehead. To the left, there is an entrance porch situated in a re-entrant angle, featuring a tapering timber balustrade, moulded bargeboards with an infilled timber gable, exposed rafters, and a banded fishscale roof, although the doorway is modern. The narrow gabled jamb includes a corniced transverse stack. To the left of the main block, there is a large single-storey flat-roofed modern garage, as well as a large flat-roofed addition at the rear. The building has timber casement windows, a black slate roof with lead flashings, and coped skews with corbelled skewputts.

The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1992.
