Description

The Superintendent's House at Alnwickhill Reservoir and Waterworks in Liberton Gardens, Edinburgh, was built around 1880. This two-storey, L-plan gabled house was constructed for the Superintendent of the nearby reservoir complex. It features coursed stugged ashlar with polished ashlar dressings, including a base course, lugged margins around the windows, chamfered reveals, margined quoins, crowstepped gables, and skewputts. The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass.

On the east elevation, there is a flat-roofed porch in the re-entrant angle, with a six-panelled door to the south and a window at the front. To the right, there is a bipartite window at ground level and another bipartite window at the first floor that breaks the eaves in the crowstepped gable. An advanced gabled bay to the right features a corniced tripartite window at ground level and a bipartite window above on the first floor.

The west elevation has a single-storey and attic service wing that projects at ground level, with a single window in the attic that breaks the eaves in the crowstepped gable. The north elevation is blind, while the south elevation has one window at ground level.

To the east, there are three corniced ashlar gatepiers with vehicular and pedestrian cast-iron gates.
