Description

Robert Morrison, designed 1807, executed 1819. 3-storey and basement, 3-bay terraced tenement. Broached ashlar sandstone. Cill course at 1st floor; advanced cills at 2nd floor windows; cornice and blocking course at 2nd floor. Steps and entrance platt.

E (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: 3-bay front at principal floor, corniced with consoles, comprising 6-panel door at right (No 30), plate glass rectangular fanlight; 2-bay shop front at left, with 2-leaf timber door, plate glass rectangular fanlight, at outer left, plate glass window at centre. Regular fenestration to floors above, with architraved and corniced windows at 1st floor.

N ELEVATION: adjoining terrace, see separate listing (Nos 32-38 Howe Street).

S ELEVATION: adjoining terrace, see separate listing (No 24 Howe Street).

Predominantly 12-pane timber sash and case windows. Polygonal piended dormer at left. Grey slate M-roof. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIORS: not seen, 1997, but some evidence of working panelled shutters.

RAILINGS: cast-iron railings with decorative balusters and finials flanking steps to No 30, and to outer left of entrance platt at No 28.
