46 Grange Road, Edinburgh

46 Grange Road is a villa built around 1852, featuring two storeys and a symmetrical rectangular plan with three bays. The exterior is constructed of squared and snecked rubble, with the north elevation finished in stugged and snecked ashlar. Architectural details include a base, a dividing band, blocking courses, a deep cornice, channelled long and short quoins, bracketed cills, and raised window surrounds.

On the north elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a centrally located door with a raised shouldered surround, a keystone, a cornice, and a pediment above a deep-set panelled door, complemented by a plate glass fanlight. Flanking the door are single windows, with additional windows above on the first floor.

The east elevation features a single-storey piend-roofed service wing at the ground floor. The west elevation has two single windows on the first floor, one of which is blinded, and a conservatory that extends around the southwest corner. The south elevation includes a central stair window, a full-height canted window on the outer left, and regular fenestration in the remaining bay.

The villa has plate glass sash and case windows, with leaded glass on the first floor centre of the north elevation. The roof is covered with grey slate and features lead flashing, along with two corniced wallhead stacks topped with octagonal cans.

The interior was not seen in 1990. The property is enclosed by a low coped boundary wall to the street, with high boundary walls to the west and Lauder Road, and high mutual boundary walls. There is also a harled single-storey addition and a garage within the grounds.
