1 Gordon Terrace, Edinburgh

5 Gordon Terrace is a late 19th century, two-storey and attic, twelve-bay asymmetrical terrace featuring baronial detailing. The building is constructed from slightly bull-faced, coursed cream sandstone with red sandstone ashlar dressings.

The entrance elevation showcases Nos 1-4, which are arranged in an eight-bay grouping of two-by-two. There are blank heraldic panels and moulding above the doorways on the left side, with panelled doors, plate glass fanlights, and narrow sidelights flanking the entrances. Above, single windows are located on the first floor. The pitched roof dormers are adorned with carved bargeboards. To the right, full-height, three-light canted windows are set in bays with crow-stepped gables that are corbelled out above, featuring small single attic windows and carved stone finials at each gablehead. No 5 consists of four bays and includes a three-stage polygonal corner tower with single windows on each face, topped by a turret with a decorative cast iron parapet and finial. There is a pedimented doorway to the south with a panelled door and a two-bay linking block to the north, which has single windows on both the ground and first floors.

The north elevation has four bays, featuring a full-height, three-light canted window with a polygonal roof on the outer right. There are single windows on both floors to the outer left and penultimate right, flanking a central carved heraldic panel between the floors and a crow-stepped gable. A single round-arched window is located at the gablehead.

The building has plate glass and timber sash and case windows, with a grey slate pitched roof featuring crow-stepped skews, shaped coped wallheads, ridge stacks, and moulded cans. The original rainwater goods are still in place.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is bordered by a low, coped boundary wall along the street, with replacement railings.
