Description

The Wauchope Memorial, located at 267 Niddrie Mains Road in Edinburgh, was designed by architect Thomas Tolmie Paterson and sculpted by William Beveridge in 1901. This Celtic cross memorial features a raised stepped base and was erected in memory of Major General Andrew Gilbert Wauchope of Niddrie Marischal, who died in the Boer War. It is situated in front of the former Niddrie Mill Primary School on the school grounds. The memorial is made of pink Corennie granite and includes the Wauchope arms, the arms of the University of Edinburgh, St Andrew, and Scotland, all adorned with Celtic style decoration on the shaft. The base has polished panels with an inscription in raised letters.
