Description

5, 7, 9, 11 Leith Street is a late 18th century wedge-plan tenement block that stands three stories tall with an attic. It features a seven-bay bowed elevation facing Leith Street, constructed of polished ashlar. The ground floor has a pilastraded shopfront, which may date from the late 19th century, and there is a cill band at the first floor level, an eaves cornice, and a parapet with a raised border. The roof includes pedimented timber dormers.

On the northwest elevation, which faces Leith Street, there is an approximately central timber-panelled two-leaf door with a letterbox fanlight set in a recessed opening. To the left of this door, there are three large windows separated by pilasters. To the right, there is one large window, also divided by pilasters, along with a similar recessed doorway and, at the far right, another timber-panelled two-leaf door featuring a segment and lozenge design letterbox fanlight. The first floor has seven irregularly spaced windows, while the second floor has six. The roof is adorned with four bipartite dormers that have small raking pediments, and the central pair is connected by a pilastered timber screen topped with a segmental pediment that bears the word 'ESTABLISHED'.

The ground floor features modern plate glass in timber frames, while the upper floors and dormers predominantly have 12-pane glazing in sash and case windows. The dormers are finished with timber fascias, lead haffits, and roofs that are part flat and part pitched. The building has a mansard roof covered with grey tiles and a stone-coped brick ridge stack with circular cans located to the left.
