Description
29, 31, 33, 35 Leith Street is a late 18th century tenement block that stands five storeys tall with an attic. The building features a near-symmetrical principal elevation with four bays facing Leith Street. It is constructed from droved ashlar with polished cills and mullions, while the rear is made of coursed rubble. The ground floor has modern shopfronts, and all upper floors are accented with cill bands, an eaves cornice, and a blocking course. The windows are regularly spaced, with tripartite windows in the outer left bay on the upper floors.
On the northwest elevation facing Leith Street, there is a timber-panelled door with a six-pane fanlight set within a segmental-arched opening, and the surrounding stonework is painted. In the center and to the right, there are two modern shopfronts, each featuring deeply set-back central doorways flanked by windows. The roof is adorned with two piend-roofed dormers.
The southeast elevation is eight storeys high and has three bays, with a narrow canted section on the left. This elevation also displays predominantly regular fenestration with dressed margins.
The east elevation is mostly hidden by the adjoining No 37, but above the roof level of No 37, there is a rendered gable on the left with one window, and to the right, a coursed rubble curved section with one window.
In terms of glazing, the ground floor features plate glass, while the upper floors predominantly have 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, with 4-pane glazing in the flanking lights of the tripartite windows. The dormers are finished with grey slate fascias, haffits, and roofs. The pitched roof is also covered in grey slate, with stone skews and skewputts. There is a cement rendered gablehead stack with circular cans on the east gable.
