Description
45 Main Street in Ratho is an earlier 19th-century single-storey cottage with a three-bay rectangular plan. The exterior is constructed of squared whinstone with stugged sandstone margins, which has been painted.
The main elevation features a central door with a narrow letter-box fanlight above it, supported by brackets. There are windows on either side of the door. The windows are plate glass sash and case style. The roof is covered with grey slate and has ashlar coping at the skews. It includes square apex stacks, with the stack on the right being coped in sandstone and topped with paired octagonal cans.
In front of the cottage, there is a low rubble wall with a pedestrian entrance to the right. This entrance is flanked by small piers that have pyramidal caps and chamfered arrises.
