Gymnasium, Redford Infantry Barracks, Colinton Road, Edinburgh

The Gymnasium at Redford Infantry Barracks on Colinton Road in Edinburgh is a two-storey building with a rectangular plan and seven bays, designed by Harry B Measures and constructed between 1909 and 1915. It features Dutch gables and has flat-roofed extensions on the southwest and northeast sides, along with a gabled extension at the rear (southeast). The exterior is rendered and includes pale ashlar dressings, a base course, and an eaves cornice. The upper storey has large rectangular windows on the side elevations, while the gable ends are adorned with Diocletian windows. The roof is covered with grey slates and has raised skews with scrolled consoles at the ends, as well as a single wallhead chimney stack on the southwest elevation.

The upper storey windows consist of timber frames with 4-pane glazing and top-opening hoppers. The interior, observed in 2016, features a spacious open area with steps leading to a timber gallery at one end and rooms located below. The roof is lined with timber.
