47, 49 East Claremont Street, Edinburgh

43 and 45 East Claremont Street in Edinburgh are a pair of classical tenements designed by Thomas Bonnar between 1824 and 1830. These three-storey buildings with a basement feature six bays and are constructed from sandstone ashlar, displaying channelled rustication at the ground level. They have a base course, a cill band course, and architraved and corniced windows, with decorative window guard balconies on the first floor. The cornice and blocking course are topped with an eaves band, and there are ashlar steps and entrance platts that extend over the basement.

The principal elevation includes timber panelled doors with rectangular fanlights, featuring paired circles in the glazing, located in entrance recesses at the center bays. The remaining bays have windows set in recesses, and the upper floors show regular fenestration with smaller windows on the second floor. The timber sash and case windows on the second floor have 12-pane glazing, while the ground and first floors feature 4-pane and plate glass windows. The buildings also have stacks with terracotta cans and fleur-de-lys headed cast-iron railings. The interior was not seen in 1998.
