51, 53 East Claremont Street, Edinburgh

55-57 East Claremont Street is an 18th-century terrace of six classical houses, designed by Thomas Bonnar between 1825 and 1827. The building is two stories high, with a basement and attic, and features a total of 18 bays. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar, with channelled rustication at the ground level, and includes a base course, cill band course, cornice, and blocking course with an eaves band. The first floor has decorative window guard balconies, and there are ashlar steps and entrance platts that oversail the basement.

The principal elevation has timber panelled doors with rectangular fanlights in recessed panels at the third bay and every third bay thereafter. The remaining bays feature windows set in recesses, with regular fenestration above. The full-width dormers are located at Nos 69 and 73, while the other houses have pairs of dormers.

The windows are timber sash and case, mostly with plate glass glazing, though some have 12-pane glazing. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are stacks with terracotta cans. The property is enclosed by fleur-de-lys headed cast-iron railings. The interior was not seen in 1998.
