Description

St Anthony's Place, located at 26, 28, 30, and 32 Morrison Street in Edinburgh, is a four-storey, 21-bay rectangular-plan tenement block designed by William Burn in 1821. The building features polished sandstone ashlar and has a variety of painted timber, glass, and sandstone fronts at the ground floor. The west gable end is harled, while the rear is constructed of coursed sandstone. There are remnants of a dividing band course between the ground and first floors, cills to the first-floor windows, a cill course to the second floor, a cornice, and a blocking course. Each 7-bay section has blind central windows on all floors.

On the south elevation, there is a modern single-storey projecting shopfront spanning seven bays to the west. To the left, there is a pend leading to two bays of the next 7-bay section at ground level, with a modern single-storey projecting shopfront to the right of the pend. The six-bay section, which has a basement below (No 16), features round-arched windows and two entrances flanked by single bays with timber doors and round-arched plate glass fanlights. The rest of the ground floor has a modern single-storey projecting shopfront. The upper floors are regularly fenestrated with single windows, and there is a French window located one bay from the east end at the first floor.

The building predominantly has 2-pane timber sash and case glazing, with some original 12-pane sash and case windows on the third floor. The roof features coped stacks with corniced cans, and there are cast-iron rainwater goods.
