Description

17-21 Gilmore Place is a row of classical houses built in the mid 19th century. The buildings are three stories high with an attic and have a near rectangular plan, forming part of a terrace. They are constructed of polished sandstone ashlar, featuring painted doorpieces. A band course runs along the ground floor at cornice level, and the windows are architraved with lugged cills.

On the north entrance elevation, Nos 17 and 21 have pilastered doorpieces, while No 19 has a plain doorway. All three houses have panelled timber doors and fanlights. There are single windows in the flanking bays at ground level and regular window arrangements on the upper floors. A window on the second floor above the entrance to No 19 is blocked, and No 21 has two dormers on its roof.

The houses feature a variety of timber sash and case windows, including two-pane, twelve-pane, and six-pane designs. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended shape. There is a corniced wallhead stack with corniced cans above the entrance to No 19, and a coped mutual stack with a corniced can to the outer right of No 21. The buildings also have cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interiors were not seen in 1997. The boundary walls along the street are coped and coursed, primarily with replacement iron railings.
