25 Gilmore Place, Edinburgh

29 Gilmore Place is an earlier 19th-century building with later additions, part of a terrace of two-storey and attic, five-bay, near rectangular-plan plain classical houses. The structure is made of coursed sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and features painted ashlar doorpieces. It has a dividing band course, a dentilled cornice, long and short surrounds, and projecting cills to the windows.

On the north (entrance) elevation, there is a pilastered and corniced doorpiece in the outer left bay of No 25, which includes a timber door and fanlight, with a single window aligned above. There are single windows at the ground and first floor in the bay to the right, and a box dormer in the attic.

Nos 27 and 29 share a pair of pilastered and corniced doorpieces, with flanking windows at the ground level and single windows aligned above. There is a blind single window at the center above the doorpieces, and two canted dormers, with a single light in the left dormer and a three-light in the right dormer.

The west (Hailes Street) elevation features a lean-to at the ground level to the left with an entrance door, a single window to the right, and a pair of windows at the first floor and attic in the gablehead, while the windows to the left are blocked. The building has replacement windows, a grey slate roof, coped brick gablehead stacks with moulded cans, and cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interiors were not seen in 1997. The property is enclosed by a coped, coursed boundary wall to the street, which includes wrought-iron railings.
