Description

Ransfield Farm is an earlier 19th century, two-storey, three-bay rectangular-plan farmhouse with a service wing at the rear. The building is constructed from squared, coursed whinstone with sandstone margins and quoins, featuring raised cills, a base course, a first-floor cill course, an eaves cornice, and a blocking course.

On the south elevation, there is a deep-set door at the center, which is a flush six-panelled door with a plate glass fanlight above it. Flanking windows are symmetrically arranged on this elevation, with additional windows on the first floor.

The north elevation, which faces the rear, is made of rubble whinstone with some pinnings and is adjoined by a rubble boundary wall that has a semi-circular coping, leading to the rear kitchen yard. In the right corner of the yard, there is a small rectangular storage shed with a piended roof, constructed from rubble with droved sandstone margins.

The west elevation features three bays, with windows located in the outer left and right bays. The ground right window is partly blocked, and there are blind windows at the center, which are now obscured by ivy.

On the east elevation, there is a later addition of an off-centre window at ground level. The building has replacement uPVC two-pane hopper windows that mimic sash and case style. The roof is made of grey slate, with piended and platformed sections, and features tall, coped end wallhead stacks with octagonal cans.

The entrance to the property is marked by gatepiers on the south side, which lead directly to the main entrance. These gatepiers are made of stugged sandstone and support a central carriage gate, flanked by side pedestrian gates. There was formerly a fountain located at the center in front of the house.
