Description

Robert Reid and William Sibbald, 1802. 4-storey and basement, 7-bay terraced tenement. Broached ashlar sandstone; V-jointed rustication at principal floor. Band course at principal, 1st and 2nd floors; projecting cills at 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor windows; cornice and blocking course at 3rd floor. Entrance platts and steps oversailing basements.

W (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: round-arched doorpiece centred at principal floor, with panelled door, blind, radial, semicircular fanlight, flanked by round-arched doorpeices, with panelled doors and radial semicircular fanlights. Regular fenestration in remaining bays at principal floor and to floors above. Flagged basement area.

N ELEVATION: adjoining terrace, see separate listing (9 and 9A Howe Street).

S ELEVATION: adjoining terrace, see separate listing (1-19 Heriot Row).

Predominantly 12-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate M-roof. Cast-iron rainwater goods. Broached ashlar ridge stacks, random rubble gablehead stack with broached quoins; coped, with circular cans.

INTERIORS: not seen, 1997, but some evidence of working panelled shutters.

RAILINGS: iron railings.
