Description

Robert Reid and William Sibbald, 1802. 3-storey and basement, 3-bay terraced tenement. Broached ashlar sandstone; V-jointed rustication at principal floor. Band course at principal, 1st and 2nd floors; projecting cills at 1st and 2nd floor windows; cornice and blocking course at 2nd floor. Entrance platt and steps oversailing basement.

W (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: round-arched doorpiece in bay to left at principal floor, comprising panelled door flanked by 5-pane glazed panels, radial, semicircular fanlight. Regular fenestration to remaining bays at principal floor, and to floor above. Flagged basement area.

N ELEVATION: adjoining terrace, see separate listing (11 and 13 Howe Street).

S ELEVATION: adjoining terrace, see separate listing (5-7, odd Nos, Howe Street).

Predominantly 12-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate M-roof. Polygonal piended dormer to right. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIORS: not seen, 1997, but some evidence of working panelled shutters.

RAILINGS: ashlar copes surmounted by iron railings, with spear-headed balusters and urn finials.
