Description

138 Glasgow Road in Edinburgh is a pair of single-storey, rectangular-plan farm cottages built between the early to mid-19th century. They are constructed from red sandstone rubble, featuring polished yellow sandstone dressings, long and short dressings, quoins, and projecting cills.

The south elevation is symmetrical, with a gabled doorway at the center of each cottage that breaks the eaves. Each doorway has a two-leaf boarded timber door with glazed upper panels, flanked by windows on either side.

The west and east elevations are gabled. The north elevation has a flat-roofed, harled, single-storey addition at the center of each cottage, while the rest of the elevation was not visible in 1999.

The cottages have timber sash and case windows, with 12 panes in No 138 and 4 panes in No 140. The roof is covered with graded grey slate and features a lead ridge and regularly spaced ventilators. There are coped brick gablehead and ridge stacks with circular cans, as well as coped stone skews with skewputts.

The interior was not seen in 1999.
