Description
1-2 Links Gardens is a terrace of three early 19th century, three-storey houses with a basement and attic, along with a corner tenement at an oblique angle. The buildings are constructed from cream sandstone, featuring a polished ashlar ground floor, stugged ashlar above with polished dressings, and coursed and squared rubble at the rear. There is a band course above the basement, a rusticated ground floor, another band course above the ground floor, and a dentilled eaves cornice with a blocking course.
The southwest elevation facing Links Gardens has twelve bays, each with single windows (some blocked at the basement level). The doorways are accessed by steps, with Nos 2 and 4 featuring panelled doors and radial fanlights, while the doorway to the former No 1 has been converted into a window. No 4 has two canted dormers with piended roofs, along with modern box dormers.
The northwest elevation facing Salamander Place has four bays, with a common stair doorway on the outer left that features a consoled cornice, a replacement door, and a fanlight. There are single windows and a mansard extension above, with single windows in the remaining bays.
The northeast rear elevation has a gable constructed from squared and snecked rubble, with the gablehead raised into a mansard. There are single windows at the rear, some of which have been altered, and modern box dormers.
The windows are mostly timber sash and case, with 12-pane and plate glass glazing, although there are replacement windows at No 3 and at the rear. The roof is slate with metal flashings, and there are coped mutual stacks and skews.
The boundary walls consist of a low rubble wall with plain iron railings, and there are remains of a lamp standard at No 4.
