Description
40-46 Victoria Street in Edinburgh is a curved terrace of five 3-storey, 2-bay shops, designed by George Smith in 1843. The terrace has ten bays and is constructed of painted ashlar, stepping down with the incline of the street. Above the shops, there is a pavement and railings of Victoria Terrace, which are listed separately. The shops feature a base course and boldly dentilled cornices, along with an eaves cornice and blocking course. Most of the shop fronts have been altered in the later 19th century, now featuring plate glass and inset glazed doors, while the upper windows have tabbed surrounds. The upper floors have timber sash and case windows with plate glass.
