Description

69 Gilmore Place in Edinburgh is an early 19th-century pair of plain classical houses that are two stories tall with an attic and have a rectangular plan. The buildings are constructed from coursed sandstone with ashlar dressings, featuring a base course, a cill course for the first-floor windows, projecting cills at the ground level, and long and short droved surrounds for the windows.

The north elevation, which is the entrance side, has a canted section on the outer right. The doorpiece to the outer right bay of No 67 is pilastered and corniced, featuring a timber door with a small-pane upper panel and a single window above it. The two bays to the left have regular fenestration, and there are two dormers. The doorpiece to the outer right bay of No 69 has consoles and a pediment, with a timber door that includes a glass panel and a single window above it, along with regular fenestration in the two bays to the left and two dormers.

The windows are 2-pane timber sash and case, while the dormers of No 69 have 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is a grey slate mansard style, with a canted section that sweeps at the eaves, a mutual skew, and a rendered and coped central ridge stack. There is also a corniced mutual stack shared with No 71, along with a variety of moulded cans.

The interior was not seen in 1997. The boundary walls consist of a low coped rubble wall along the street at No 69.
