Description

The icehouse at Ratho Park House in Edinburgh dates back to the early 18th century and is situated to the north of the house, next to the bank of the Union Canal. The ground slopes to the north towards the raised bank of the canal. This structure is a circular, domed, subterranean building made of rubble and is currently very overgrown. It features a low entrance on the northeast side, which has a stugged stone lintel and jambs, and a raised dome at the center.

Inside, the icehouse has a domed interior constructed of brick and rubble, which is partially rendered. The interior has a fall of approximately 4 feet.
