Pollock Institute Of Physical Education Psychology, Pleasance, Edinburgh

The Societies Centre at the University of Edinburgh, located at 60 and 66 Pleasance, is a building designed by James Inch Morrison between 1925 and 1937. It incorporates part of a former brewery to the east and features a two-storey and attic structure with multiple gables, crow-stepped roofs, and pantiled surfaces. This extensive Scots Renaissance complex is organized around two U-shaped internal courtyards and includes a range with a round-arched pend leading from The Pleasance to the west. The building is situated on gently sloping ground and is constructed of random rubble with ashlar margins, while the former brewery section is made of squared, snecked stugged rubble. Notable architectural details include raised cills, roll-moulded doorways, and gabled, finialled dormers that break the eaves, along with some cat-slide dormers. The entrance features panelled timber doors.

The west elevation facing The Pleasance is asymmetrical and consists of 14 bays. It has an off-centre round-arched doorway with a two-leaf timber panelled door and a multi-pane fanlight above.

Inside, as observed in 2007, there is timber flooring and panelling in the gym area. The building predominantly features 12- and 15-pane timber sash and case windows, along with some multi-pane fixed windows that include top-hoppers. The roofs are covered with red pantiles and grey slates, and there are coped gables and ridge stacks.
