236 Newhaven Road, Edinburgh

234 Newhaven Road is a classical house built around 1817, now divided into two properties, with No 234 located in the outer right bay. The building is two stories tall and has a three-bay rectangular plan, featuring lightly stugged cream sandstone that has been cleaned at No 236. It includes polished dressings, raised long and short quoins, raised margins to the ground floor dividing band, a continuous cornice, and projecting painted cills. There is a later flat-roofed extension to the outer left, which is No 238.

The west entrance elevation has a painted Roman Doric pilastered doorpiece at the center of No 236, consisting of a plain frieze and a projecting cornice, with a timber panelled door and a round-arched fanlight. There is a tripartite window at the ground level in the outer left bay and single windows on the first floor in the center and outer left bays. The outer left bay also features a canted window at the ground level, which has been converted from the original tripartite design for No 234, along with a single window on the first floor and a piended bipartite dormer above.

No 236 has replacement 18-pane timber sash and case windows, while No 234 has a 2-pane sash and case window on the first floor and an 18-pane dormer above. The roof is covered with graded grey slate and has raised stone skews. There is a corniced ashlar apex stack to the north and an ashlar ridge stack to the south, which is shared with No 232, along with various cans. The interiors were not seen in 1996.
