212 Newhaven Road, Newhaven, Edinburgh

214 Newhaven Road is a pair of near-symmetrical classical houses built in the early 19th century. The houses are two stories tall and consist of four bays, constructed from coursed rubble cream sandstone with cherry cocking, and feature polished and painted ashlar dressings along with raised long and short quoins.

The west entrance elevation showcases Roman Doric pilastered doorpieces in the central bays, adorned with rosette motifs in the entablatures. The doors have been replaced with modern versions, and there are plate glass fanlights above. The ground floor has corniced tripartite windows in the left and right bays, with flanking lights that are blinded. Above, the first floor features single windows. The first-floor windows are 4-pane timber sash and case, while the ground floor has 2-pane timber sash and case windows, with altered glazing at the rear. The roof is covered in grey slate and has raised stone skews. There is a coped rubble apex stack to the north and a coped rendered apex stack to the south, which is shared with No 208. The rear has a mutual coped wallhead stack with circular cans, and there is a pilastered and pedimented dormer window with a cast-iron balcony at No 214.

The interiors were not seen in 1996. The gatepiers and boundary walls are made of rubble with slaister pointing, featuring coped gatepiers at No 212 and a coped boundary wall along the street with replacement railings.
